The smaller ones shall be taken. Sounds biblical, but true.
At the end of last week, The Advocate was reduced to an insert in Out magazine.
Today, Time Inc., which inspired this blog to come into being, folded Fortune Small Business, which was just waiting to happen for a long time.
The Reaper has been tossing this title in the garbage ever since it received its first small business American Express card. What, you didn't see the TV commercial featuring me and my name on the bottom of the card? You think it was all Marty Scorcese ads?
Based on prior experience with smaller magazines turned into inserts, the only reason why it The Advocate wasn't killed off outright is that someone either has an ironclad contract that would be more expensive to break than to keep the name around for a while, or someone has really good blackmail material. Either way, the name will keep appearing for at least a little while, just to prevent others from wanting to buy the magazine and turn it into a viable competitor.

Was Fortune Small Business anything like Inc? I love that mag and would be sad to see it go.
