RIP: "Disney Adventures" August 2007

Disney_adventuresYo ho ho, me bucco's! We're here aboard our fair dark ship taking the Disney marketing, whoops, magazine Adventures on the ride down to the end of the world. The 15 men on a dead men's chest may be the number of Disney employees unfortunately out of a job now that Adventures has met its watery fate.

If you've read about the phenomenal hype machine that is Disney TV and radio, High School Musical 2, The Jonas Brothers and Hannah Montana, and the huge bucks all of this stuff rakes in, why would you need an antiquated marketing device like a pocket-sized magazine to be found on newsstands?

Arrgh. They were a good crew! I worked downstairs from them at FamilyFun (a sister Disney book) until I was laid off myself this time last year (incidentally, you might want to put FF on your death watch). The magazine group got a new publisher last year, and apparently he was appalled at the group's revenue numbers, so job number one was to cut headcount. Very sorry to see the ax fall on DM; they just moved their editorial offices from New York to Northampton, Mass., a couple years back. Now they're stranded in area with no publishing jobs to speak of and no doubt saddled with bubble-era mortgages. Incidentally, Disney seems to be extricating itself from the magazine business by any means necessary.

Another magazine that Disney fans love is going away? I'm just about to launch a theme park magazine to sort of take the place of the old Disney Magazine that the fans loved so much. Now maybe I should add some kids pages to it.

My magazine is called Orlando Attractions Magazine and you can find out more about it at http://www.attractionsmagazine.com

After a very long time!

As one of the original creative team members (from 1990-1994), I'm kinda sad to see it go. Oh well, maybe my issue 1 will be collector's item someday!

I got the last Issue Of Disney Adventures Magazine which is the November 2007 Issue!

To whoever is willing:

I am interested in buying any back issues of Disney Adventures Magazine. If anyone who has them is looking to get rid of their collection, PLEASE let me know. Prices negotiable.
PLEASE RESPOND.
